Signs of Good Luck For The Chinese New Year

Welcome to Scottrade

For many investors the gyrations in the stock market and news looming about jobless claims has left them uncertain about the future. Will the year of the dragon prove to be different?

This year the Chinese New Year, also known as the Chinese Spring Festival, is on Jan. 23. Like a number of households in China, my family always got together to celebrate the Chinese New Year. From decorations and firecrackers to specially prepared food and cleaning rituals, we always made sure to observe the holiday with time honored traditions that made way for good fortune to come in the New Year.

The 2012 Chinese New Year is particularly important because it is the year of the dragon. In China the dragon is believed to be a bearer of good luck, but ironically the dragon is also characterized as being unpredictable and surprising. While this maybe a message of opportunity for some only time will tell if the dragon will live up to its promise of good luck; especially, when it comes to the stock market.

For Scottrade the Chinese New Year has great significance. In 2001, Scottrade established its Asia Pacific department and the Scottrade Chinese website. Now efforts have expanded to offer self-directed investors Chinese-language educational opportunities through Dow Jones News, webinars, the Chinese Online Community, the Chinese Knowledge Center and Chinese Quotes & Research, along with 24/7 support through the Asia Pacific Service Center and a Chinese-language version of ScottradeELITE®. Plus there are more than 40 branches with Chinese-speaking representatives and six Asia Pacific branch offices dedicated to providing investing services for their local Chinese communities. Hopefully good fortune will find you in 2012, and we wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year!

Do you think the dragon will bring good fortune to the stock market in 2012?
